Know the Signs

Signs of Hail and Wind Damage

Hail damage can look minor at first, but cracked or bruised shingles can let water in and shorten your roof's life. That's why an up-close inspection matters.

What you can see from the ground

  • Dented gutters, downspouts, window screens or AC fins
  • Shingle pieces or granules in the yard or at downspouts
  • Missing shingles or exposed, lighter-colored patches
  • Dented or cracked roof vents
  • Damage to fences, siding, patio furniture or cars from the same storm

Our Approach

How CGJ Handles Storm Damage

Free inspection & photos

We photograph damage on every slope, plus soft metals and collateral damage that show the storm's impact.

Help with the insurance process

We explain how a roof claim works and can meet your adjuster at your home.

Repair or replacement

Limited damage gets a repair. Widespread damage usually means a new roof, installed to manufacturer specs.

Clean-up every day

Including a magnetic nail sweep of your yard and driveway.

Optional Class 4 upgrade

Replacing anyway? Ask about impact-resistant shingles and a possible insurance discount.

Damage beyond the roof

We also note hail damage to gutters, downspouts, chimney caps, vents, skylights and flashing.

Protect Yourself

Watch Out for Storm Chasers

After a big hailstorm, out-of-town crews often go door to door. Be cautious if a roofer:

  • Offers to cover or waive your deductible (that's illegal in Texas)
  • Asks you to sign a contract on the spot
  • Wants a large payment up front
  • Can't give you a local phone number or references

FAQ

Storm & Hail Damage FAQ

How do I know if hail damaged my roof?

Hail damage is often hard to see from the ground. Dented gutters, vents or AC fins after a storm are good clues. A free inspection is the surest way to find out.

What size hail damages a roof?

It depends on the roofing material, the roof's age and condition, and wind direction. Smaller hail can damage older, brittle shingles, while newer and impact-resistant roofs hold up better. We look at the actual roof rather than going by hail size alone.

How long do I have to file a hail damage claim in Texas?

It depends on your policy, and many policies set deadlines for reporting damage. Check your policy or ask your agent, and report damage promptly. Waiting can also let small damage turn into leaks.

Will filing a claim raise my insurance rates?

That's a question for your insurance agent. Rules and policies vary. Our job is to show you whether there's damage so you can make an informed decision.

Can you start work before my claim is approved?

We can tarp or make temporary repairs right away to prevent more damage. Permanent repair or replacement is usually scheduled once you know what your insurance will cover.

Do you only do storm work?

No. We handle roof repair, replacement and inspections year-round, storm or not.
